Christchurch, Kaikoura (May 1st)

After another wonderful Fergburger, (I have now been in Queenstown for a grand total of six nights and I have also eaten six or possibly even seven Fergburgers. While this feat should be in the Guinness World Records, my stomach can not even digest cereal anymore and I'm pretty sure for every Fergburger you eat, a year is taken off your life,) I decided to bugger off and head back to Wanaka for another night. It was well worth the trip as a friend and I rented a car and drove through the hills as all the leaves were turning colours. When we got to Wanaka there was a really cool art exhibit that was taking place along the waterfront. All of these pictures of human accomplishment or natural wonder had been erected for you to view as you strolled along the beach and underneath each picture was a caption that gave you some related history. After Wanaka I set out by myself once again to Christchurch where I spent the night before heading onto Kaikoura to do a little whale watching.

A few tips you should know about whale watching. Number one: It takes place in the ocean. Number two: The ocean can be a very mobile place, especially if it's stormy. Number three: While you may be smart and have taken some gravel expecting the worse, the asshole sitting beside you who just washed down an extra-large order of battered fish and chips with a beer chaser may have overlooked this insight. Fucking gross. (Although to be truthful it did attract a lot of aquatic wildlife which in turn probably increased our likelihood of seeing a whale.) These things are truly impressive. It was like watching a submarine surface for a few moments before diving back down into the ocean again. After this it's back to Christchurch tomorrow and then on to sunny skies and string bikinis. Australia here I come!
